Married or single? Dependants or none? Living at home or in rented? The basic single rate is £57.45. If you have to claim then claim and it doesn't matter what people think after all it doesn't worry the thousands steaming into the country

If it's just you then I think that you get about £80 a fortnight. If you've got kids or are ill then it's more. Ring your local Jobcentre Plus on Tuesday. It might take ages to get it sorted though. Hopefully you'll have a job by then.

Good luck with finding a job and thanks for not taking the easy way out. It's for people in your situation that the dole was invented in the first place, so don't feel bad for taking it whilst you are looking for work. Hopefully you won't be needing it for too long!

Its not much, about £40 a week depending on your age, and some help with your rent and council tax.

Now you listen to me. When you work, you pay tax. Whether you work or not, you pay tax. Its not Value Added Tomatoes on your gas, electricity and food shopping.

Whatever you have heard in the media this is NOT a poverty stricken third world nation.

The allowances are there to stop people from starving in the street because we are not barbarians. Claim what you are entitled to. And good luck with your jobhunting.

You must be more elaborate in your quest to find help.

Where do you live. go to google and type in Job Search Assistance and you should get a listing of various agencies that may provide help or referrals.

Aren't you Glad we have the Internet and Yahoo 360?

Don't worry firstly, loads of people have to do it at ome point.

As for the money, If you are over 25 then the single persons allowance is £57.45 per week. If you are younger it will be less and if you have a family it may be more.

You also get housing benefit and council tax benefit if you rent and if you have a mortgage you can get help depending on your circumstances that can be anything up to 39 weeks.

Contact your local jobcentre for your areas call centre to make your claim, or call 08456003016 option 3 for more information.
